Blinkers On Horse Racing Partnership was busy at the April OBS 2 year old in training sale. Blinkers On purchased three 2 year old's, two fillies and one colt. The hammer first fell on Hip number 797, a Majestic Warrior filly out of More Than Proud.
Simply put, this may be one of the finest fillies ever purchased by Blinkers On Racing Stable. From a physical standpoint she is the total package, good sized with a powerful hip and shoulder and what we would call “perfectly balanced”. Her conformation is excellent and she is a wonderful mover. During the OBS under tack show she was brilliant showing off her beautiful stride and big reach. And our filly is fast, she worked in 10 flat for the eighth of a mile then went 20.4 for the quarter and 33.1 for three eighths on the gallop out. The gallop out time was the fastest of any horse inspected by the Blinkers On team.
We also like her pedigree. She is by Majestic Warrior out of a More Than Ready mare. Majestic Warrior is a Grade 1 winning son of the infamous A.P. Indy and the grandson of Seattle Slew. Majestic Warrior has 6 crops of racing age and has produced two champions including the amazing Princess of Sylmar, a 9 time winner of over $2,000,000. Her dam, More Than Proud, has only had one foal to race. This is a very fast colt that ran a 7 on the ThoroGraph sheets and a 98 Equibase Speed Figure as a 2 year old.
Shortly thereafter Hip number 809 went into the ring and after a short bidding war with the Peter Miller team Blinkers On had made it's second acquisition, a Midshipman filly out of My Coastie.
Our filly is built for speed. From a physical standpoint she fits the sprinter mold, not too big, not too small, good engine behind and a big efficient stride. She worked an eighth of a mile in 10.0 with an excellent gallop out at the OBS under tack show. This was the co-fastest work at the distance the day she breezed. Based on her physical and breeze we feel she is an excellent value.
The breeding on our filly is speed on speed with a dosage index of 3.80. Her sire is Midshipman, the Grade 1 Breeders Cup Juvenile winner and a sire that has gotten off to an excellent start in his stud career. Her dam is My Coastie, a three time winning Trippi mare, with her best race being a win at 5 ½ furlongs. Our filly is her first foal.
The second hip through the sales ring on the last day of the sale was Hip number 910 and Blinkers On went to 90K for a big Kittens Joy colt out of Primetimevalentine.
Our colt is a horse with scope and plenty of leg. He has a big walk, really stepping over, which translates into a beautiful stride. This colt worked a quarter mile at the OBS under tack show in 21.3, doing it the right way.
His handsome physique goes hand in hand with his impressive pedigree. He is by Kittens Joy, the leading turf sire and Grade 1 winning Champion grass horse with career earnings of over $2,000,000. Kittens Joy has 9 crops of racing age with progeny earnings of over $64,000,000. His offspring have won 1542 races and 75 stakes races which have produced 4 champions. Our colt’s dam is Primetimevalentine, a stakes winner at a mile and a quarter on turf and she earned over $130,000 on the racetrack. She is also an excellent producer with 4 foals to race, all winners, including the stakes winner All For Thee.
